PIM implementation for Mölndal Energi

Mölndal Energi is an energy company owned by the city of Mölndal (Sweden). It provides 100% fossil-free energy, district heating and cooling, and energy services to residential and business customers.

Due to the large number of retail customers and contracts, Mölndal Energi needed to change its existing data management system. The solution to this challenge proved to be Pimcore.

 

Tasks and objectives

Mölndal Energi, due to the large amount of data stored and continuously processed, decided to look for an open-source master data platform to process product information. The system acts as a 'master data' or 'data warehouse', representing SSOT (single source of truth).  

The PIM system allows Mölndal Energi to master the core business objects:  

  • customer information,  
  • contract information (electricity, district heating, district cooling, microproduction),  
  • service/utility,  
  • invoices,  
  • meter data. 
 

PIM is divided into so-called classes, which categorize/store Mölndal Energi's data. In addition, the system can create APIs for application connections.

The implementation of the PIM infrastructure allows the Client to optimize efficiency, minimize IT costs and improve customer service by being truly data-driven, as opposed to system-driven. 

Further development  

Mölndal Energi plans to develop the platform and the organization's information management model. An application based on the existing API will be developed in the future.  Among other things, Mölndal Energi will build a 360 app to speed up internal search on customer data, along with development of a redesigned logged in customer experience.

Thanks to the implementation of PWA, the Client's new online store works like a standard website but has the look and feel of an application. What is more, PWA eliminates the need to download and install a conventional application on the device.

All you have to do is open the page in your browser. The main mechanism behind PWA is the Service Worker, which allows data to be processed offline. Thanks to the Service Worker, all store pages (except for the shopping cart) are available offline.
