PWA - Progressive Web Application

The enormous popularity of portable devices influenced a demand for websites that are easily available in mobile versions. At the same time, users more often refrain from downloading many apps and decide to use a few selected ones.

The application to be fully compatible with the PWA spirit must meet certain conditions set by Google in the document "Progressive Web Application Checklist":

• Proper operation for each user. No matter how consumers use the application and on which web browser, it should always work properly
• constant development and continuous improvement
• responsive design - the app has to be responsive on all devices: computers, tablets, smartphones, laptops or TVs
• security – a HTTPS protocol is required in order to prevent any misuse
• offline mode – it is necessary to use Service Workers. In a case when there is no internet connection, the app should keep parts of the website and be able to display them correctly. For example, in online stores, at least some of the catalog should be available
• performance – optimization of the amount of data transferred
• shareability – efficient URL forwarding

Main advantages of the PWA implementation include comfort, reduced server load, adjustment to individual needs. Additionally, from a business point of view, it is a great way to optimize costs. As it turns out, it is not necessary to involve two separate teams to manage a web version and an application. Apart from that, the acquisition of new users becomes much cheaper and simpler. Traditional apps raise problematic issues such as long update time or the need to download via the app store. The use of PWA allows you to avoid this type of situation.
